Weather in Late June – Early July
In late June and early July, Szeged typically experiences warm to hot weather. Daytime temperatures range from 25°C to 34°C (77°F to 93°F), while evenings can be pleasantly cool (down to 12–21°C or 54-70°F). Occasional heatwaves or overcast days are possible.
We recommend bringing light clothing, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and staying hydrated throughout the day.
Electric Plug Adapters

Hungary uses standard European plug types: Type C and Type F. The voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Please bring a suitable adapter if your devices use different plug types.
Currency
The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). As of June 2025, the approximate exchange rate is 1 EUR ≈ 400 HUF, 1 USD ≈ 350 HUF.
- Most shops, restaurants, and services accept credit and debit cards.
- It is still useful to have some cash (HUF) for small purchases, local transport, or open-air markets.
- Use ATMs or exchange offices in the city centre rather than at the airport. Avoid standalone Euronet ATMs due to high fees.
ATMs and Card Payments
ATMs are widely available throughout Szeged, including at the airport, railway station, and in the city centre. Most ATMs support Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro cards. ATMs operated by OTP Bank, Erste, K&H, and UniCredit are generally the most reliable for international cards.
UnionPay is accepted at select ATMs, primarily those operated by OTP Bank and K&H Bank. MIR cards are not accepted by Hungarian banks. Cards co-badged with MIR and UnionPay are also unlikely to work in Hungary.
Cards issued under less common international systems such as American Express and Diners Club are accepted at very few locations in Hungary, including ATMs and merchants. Their use is not recommended as a primary payment method.
Currency exchange is available at banks and official exchange offices. ATMs usually provide a better exchange rate than cash exchange offices, but please be aware of possible foreign transaction fees imposed by your bank.
Local SIM Cards and Mobile Services
Prepaid SIM cards are available for foreigners and can be purchased at official stores or larger shops in Szeged. Major providers include:
- Magyar Telekom (Telekom): offers tourist packages such as 20 GB for 10 days or 100 GB for 30 days.
- Vodafone Hungary: widely available with prepaid and data-only plans.
- Yettel: offers competitive packages and reliable coverage.
SIM cards are typically available at shopping malls, train stations, and official stores.
